“Beauty surrounds us.”
― Rumi

This is a short story: M met mom.  They loved each other. End of story.

M was here last weekend to meet my mom.  He arrived Friday and left on Monday.  Hi fan club is now bigger.  My mom also became a fan.  M is the most caring and considerate person I ever met. He cares.  He truly cares about others and the world around him.

I feel so incredibly blessed to have him in my life. He says he is blessed to have found me. We plan on making sure that this gratitude for each other never leave us.

On the day he arrived he booked his ticket to Brazil.  He wanted to meet my mom first and have her blessing and invitation to come to Brazil.  He is going to arrive there 2 days after I get there, and he will leave the morning after I leave.  We are all excited that he will be coming to Brazil and staying with my family for over 2 weeks.

He had talked about going surfing while there, but I convinced him to leave that for the future. I have warned him that this will be a work trip. I am intent on continuing some repairs to my mom’s house, and he says he is eager to help.

On future trips we want to visit more of Brazil.

While he was here, my  mom, my sister and I, followed our usual routine.  We had some meals at home and some out, with him saying that everything was delicious.  We went to the casino, where he proceeded to give my mom money to play.  We visited some stores, where he patiently waited while my mother chose what to buy.

He is returning to NY on Sunday, May 14 and will stay till Thursday.  After that we will see other on May 26th when he arrives in Brazil.

I see him being in my life for all my days, and it feels perfect.

“I am larger, better than I thought; I did not know I held so much goodness.
All seems beautiful to me.
Whoever denies me, it shall not trouble me;
Whoever accepts me, he or she shall be blessed, and shall bless me.”

“There is a kind of magicness about going far away and then coming back all changed.” ― Kate Douglas Wiggin, New Chronicles of Rebecca

Hi friends,  I will be visiting everyone’s blogs in the next few days and will be catching up on your posts. I do miss you all when I am not around here.  Actually, you are the only routine I missed 🙂

I have been off of work for the past week.  This time I didn’t check in at work at all.  I totally disconnected, I didn’t even check email.  I really needed this break.  I don’t care about work as much anymore (there will be a future post about it).

My friend from Brazil is still here.  She will be here until next Sunday.  It has been fun playing tourist, but also so exhausting.

Among all we did, we spent a day in Mystic, CT, just enjoying the beautiful scenery and stores.  We had some delicious pastries at Sift Bake Shop.

We spent a day in Westerly, RI. There we spent some time with my friend that lives there and is running for town council.  We attended one of her events, and drove around the beautiful beaches.  Eating at the Verandah at Ocean House in Watch Hill is always a favorite for the amazing water views.

We also spent a couple of days at Foxwoods Casino and Mohegan Sun Casino.  While we didn’t make money, we didn’t really lose much, and it was really fun playing the slots.  While there we shopped at Tanger Outlets. We also had great meals there, specially the one at Ballo Italian Restaurant in Mohegan Sun.

We were sightseeing in New York City for a couple of days. We did a lot walking, which was good since we have been doing a lot eating. The best meal in NY was at Rice and Beans, a Brazilian Restaurant.

Mr. Sweet joined us for that dinner and the night before he took us to an Argentinian restaurant that his friend owns.  He continues to be very sweet, being kind to my friend and bringing bagels for my sister every time we meet.  I will be writing a post about him next.

There has been a lot shopping.  Even though I dislike going shopping, if I am forced to go I end up being the one that buys the most.  Besides the outlets in Foxwoods we also shopped at the outlet stores at Clinton Outlet in Clinton, CT. And not to mention, all the other stores, such as TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Macys, etc.

There was a huge amount of walking, which is always welcomed by me.  My sister and my friend are not used to so much walking, so we got an Uber a couple of times in NY.

This week will be non-stop again, specially since I have to get back to work. During the day, my sister and I will take turns taking my friend to work with us.  Some evenings we will go shopping as she still has some items left on her list, and will also go out to eat as we still have a couple of restaurant to get to.

Stay tuned for the post about Mr. Sweet.  For now, I just wanted to say hello.  Wishing everyone a blessed week! 🙂

“Distance changes utterly when you take the world on foot. A mile becomes a long way, two miles literally considerable, ten miles whopping, fifty miles at the very limits of conception. The world, you realize, is enormous in a way that only you and a small community of fellow hikers know. Planetary scale is your little secret.

Life takes on a neat simplicity, too. Time ceases to have any meaning. When it is dark, you go to bed, and when it is light again you get up, and everything in between is just in between. It’s quite wonderful, really.

You have no engagements, commitments, obligations, or duties; no special ambitions and only the smallest, least complicated of wants; you exist in a tranquil tedium, serenely beyond the reach of exasperation, “far removed from the seats of strife,” as the early explorer and botanist William Bartram put it. All that is required of you is a willingness to trudge.

There is no point in hurrying because you are not actually going anywhere. However far or long you plod, you are always in the same place: in the woods. It’s where you were yesterday, where you will be tomorrow. The woods is one boundless singularity. Every bend in the path presents a prospect indistinguishable from every other, every glimpse into the trees the same tangled mass. For all you know, your route could describe a very large, pointless circle. In a way, it would hardly matter.

At times, you become almost certain that you slabbed this hillside three days ago, crossed this stream yesterday, clambered over this fallen tree at least twice today already. But most of the time you don’t think. No point. Instead, you exist in a kind of mobile Zen mode, your brain like a balloon tethered with string, accompanying but not actually part of the body below. Walking for hours and miles becomes as automatic, as unremarkable, as breathing. At the end of the day you don’t think, “Hey, I did sixteen miles today,” any more than you think, “Hey, I took eight-thousand breaths today.” It’s just what you do.”

Being a bridesmaid is for the birds!

“The only way to have a friend is to be one.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

I should be happy that my friend asked me to be in her Bridal Party.  I am in fact  honored, but it is all such a hassle.  I was never one of those girls into these types of celebrations.  To me going to baby showers and bridal showers are a chore that I’d rather pass on.

I am guessing a contributing factor for my dislike for things bridal and baby is that I never yearned to have one of those for my own.  I grew up saying that I would never get married and that I would adopt if I ever wanted any kids.

All of a sudden I wake up and the missing ring on my finger and the missing baby in my arms is weighing heavily on me.  What, is it too late to change my mind? Why am I not allowed to change my mind?  Where did time go? What do I do now? Do I call life unfair?  Do I blame myself? Is this a life sentence? Do I marry the first willing guy?  What about the baby?

I try not to dwell on what could have been.  But I am only human and some times there is this little voice inside me that wishes things could have been different.  I relish myself on living a full life independent of what is or is not missing in it.  Lately my mantra has been:  “If you don’t have everything you love, love everything you have!”

I just surprised myself now,  this post was supposed to be about my awful experience shopping for a bridesmaid dress and the problems encountered:

1) too many choices.  the bride wanted to be nice and is allowing all the bridesmaids choose different dress styles, as long as it is Champagne and long.  This is a problem for indecisive me.

2) the worst salesperson ever.  Had me trying dresses that were not available in the color I needed, and twice I had to hunt her down on the sales floor only to find her staring lost in space.

3) lack of good choices. It seems that 99% of the styles are strapless and if somebody has been blessed in the breast department as I have it is just not flattering.  Yes folks, besides being blessed with the metaphorical star on my forehead I have been real blessed in the breast department!

4) crazy prices.  How can I in sane conscience pay over $200.00 (and that is choosing the cheapest dress plus alterations)  for a dress that I will never wear again.

It seems more of a hassle and waste of money.  I spent the entire Saturday hunting for a dress.  I went to so many stores and came back home empty handed.

If it was only the dress, it wouldn’t be so bad, but when you add shoes, hair, nails,  make up, hotel, car rental, this can be as much as a nice skiing vacation.  Oh and not to mention the gift, that I still have no idea what that will be.  Any ideas?

By the way the only other wedding that I was a bridesmaid, they got divorced a year later.  Just saying…

oh gosh, I am sounding like a bitter old maid! I am making it all about me while the whole point is my friend and her celebration. It is not all about me and what is good for me.  Sometimes you do stuff you don’t care for, you spend money you don’t have, you wear what you don’t like, all because you love someone and their happiness is important to you.  This friend is important to me!  Therefore I am putting on a happy face and I am going to be the best, most helpful bridesmaid ever!

So, I will save this longing for a baby for the next post!
