About me

I am a newly single, never married, 46 year woman, no kids, no pets, free as a bird. I am eager to live a full life.  I am trying to rebuild life after a breakup with someone that I thought was “The One”. Will take classes and chances, will take tumbles and get up, and register it all here for good or bad, but always for a good laugh!!

Break ups, separations, divorces are not easy! All of a sudden you lose companionship, loved ones, friends, pets, houses, security and most of all you lose your sense of self.

Life as you knew it is is over!  Now what?

The worst the pain and hardship the better the opportunity. This is great opportunity for learning and self discovery.  You have a chance to reinvent yourself and start over again. The same goes for job loss, illness and any other difficulty or tragedy in life.

So I plan to learn the most that I can. I plan on seizing the moment and grab opportunity by the hair and not let it go.

In March 2012 I start writing because I needed to get thoughts out of my head.

Now after a couple of months I continue to write because to me is like breathing, something I need to survive.

I write to hopefully inspire, but above all to be inspired!!

Please share with me your thoughts, about anything. We never know where it will lead.

Please read my other blog: http://listuniverse.wordpress.com/

And if you want to get in touch with me, please do so at: blessedwithastar@hotmail.com

… and I am proud to be American and Brazilian!!

  38. Very lovely name of your blog i love this 🙂

  39. I found you via Truth and Cake and am totally intrigued by what lies ahead of you. Look forward to reading more.

  40. A refreshing attitude. I wish you so much luck but I have a feeling you’ll be fine. Stronger than before and even making your own luck.

  41. Maybe it’s not so much reinventing yourself as rediscovering your essence — or even self-discovery and renewal. It’s all too easy to lose yourself in another person or situation, and then feel lost when that’s gone.

At least that’s where I was when I began keeping a journal more than four decades ago while living Upstate, only to find along the way that we really are blessed with so much more than we typically acknowledge. You seem to be finding that, too, with Blessed With a Star. … Keep it up! There are more surprises than you’d ever anticipate.

As you’ve already seen, I’m also having a lot of fun revisiting some of my nuggets from across the years and posting them on my own blog, Jnana’s Red Barn. Even more delightful is the interaction now with others who recognize similar experiences in their own journeys. Seems there are kindred spirits everywhere.

    Now, where were we? Cheers!

    • Thank you very much for your comment! You are so right! This has been a great process of learning. And I know that I have only started taking baby steps, there is so much to discover.
The interaction with others has been amazing (I can already count some as good friends) and the majority positive, of course there will always be people that will have problems with what I write, as I just found out, but at any rate, I am writing from a place of honesty in my heart.
So, thank you so much for your comment and I plan on visiting your barn often. 🙂

  50. Thanks for liking my recent post and my best wishes to you on your new journey. Interestingly the tune on my album called Rosebud Blooming (you can hear it via my link on the post and visiting the album) is about a woman who has become separated and I tried to capture the melancholy and irony of it because really I believe she was then just starting to bloom. Bon voyage on your new life and may you bloom from now on too..

I know all about losing a loved one and it takes a lot of time to forget and to come to terms with life. I also know about breaking up, I left someone a few months ago. it was a bad relationship but even so a lot of thihgs and habits change.
I hope you will get over it soon (I hope I do too)
    Love, Steph

    • Thank you so much for the kind words! At times it seems I am all better and then there are dark days, where I just try to breath, pray and wait it out! Breaking up is hard no matter what, in my case all seemed perfect, so I am still at a loss wondering what went wrong. I got to stop asking that!!! Much love to you too! Ana

  52. Thank you for following my blog! I am so new to blogging and finding my way around here, I had to read directions so I could write a note to you. I’ve read a few of your posts, and I’m hooked. As a fellow Aries, I can relate to what you are writing, and can’t wait to read your archives. You are the first person I’ve followed, and now that I know how to do that, I will find more! … As a side note, my husband is six years my junior, and I’ve dated ten years younger with no qualms. I never had the chance to go beyond ten years.

    • Good luck with blogging! I am fairly new too so I don’t know all the ins and outs yet, but fell in love with it! I am glad to be the first! 🙂 And very happy to meet a fellow impulsive and hard headed Aries! LOL I went beyond 10 years, it was very fun as long as you don’t fall in love!

  53. Hi, this really inspires me! I always think it’s the one, and they’re thinking I’m the one they’re passing time with! It’s hard to get it all, not something you could truly know as a young man! Thank you for your bravery and courage! Thank you as well for the follow!

  60. Love your blog! God bless you in your recovery. One day at a time…

I also like the name of your blog. Did it have anything to do with this Cat Stevens song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8zoi9_NkY0

    • Thank you so much!
I like Cat Stevens, but had never heard that song before. It is great!
The name of my blog has to do with being told by a fortune teller when I was 17 that he was not going to even bother giving me a reading because I had a star on my forehead and therefore whatever I wanted was mine to receive.
Well it stuck with me and I go through life knowing that I am blessed and behaving as such. (Every single person on this earth is blessed, but most people just don’t acknowledge).
Thank you for the blessing and for the song!! 🙂

  72. Thanks for ‘liking” one of my blog posts. I’ve been married for 30 years but it’s hardly been without challenges. After being together for decades and “suddenly” becoming an interfaith marriage (she’s Jewish and I’m Christian, but we started out as atheists), it’s become a whole new adventure.

I haven’t read your blog content yet, but I hope and pray that the pain is easing and the adventure is beginning for you.

I know about writing. If I didn’t write every day, I’d probably explode. I wear my heart not on my sleeve, but on my blog.

    • Hi James
30 years!! Congratulations! I can only imagine the conflicts generated in an interfaith marriage. Glad that you see it as an adventure, that is a great outlook to have! I know what you mean about writing! Many Blessings to you and I will stop by often to see what you are up to you! 🙂

    • Thank you so much for stopping by and offering me your years/eyes 🙂 sometimes it seems there are not enough humans on this earth to listen to my sorrows – lol, but I am quick to snap out of it and see the beauty in the world.

It is my pleasure! Sometimes the smallest things in life matter the most. I am happy to hear that you are getting better. It is step by step, day by day that is for sure and you will be stronger for it. This I know from experience. Keep your head held high and your heart soft. I was told this by someone a long time ago. Don’t let your heart get bitter by this experience.

    • Hi Eva.I call my heart the Energizer Bunny – it takes a licking and it keeps on ticking. I will never give up on love and finding a life partner. People disappoint me but there is a lot lessons in that. Thank you my new friend! Blessings! 🙂

I hear you on that! Good for you! It took me some time to come around after my heartaches in the past. As I get older and go through life, I look back and realize they were all lessons that I had to learn whether I liked it or not. My old friend had a saying: People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime! I guess some were seasonal 🙂 You’re welcome my new friend and all the blessings right back at you!

      • People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime – that is very true and I am still trying to figure out the reason and lessons in my relationship with Ex. I want to make sure that I learn all there is to learn so I don’t have to learn any lessons twice!

      • Healthy Glow Nutrition said:

The answer will come! It always comes later when you have healed, and moved on. The picture is always clearer looking in than being in the situation. I have unfortunately had to learn the hard way by repeating things many times before It dawned on me that my choices haven’t changed so how can my results? I liked the bad boys and they always broke my heart. Thats ok though, lesson finally learned 🙂

      • glad that the lesson has been finally learned! I am not sure how long it will take me, but I decided to just enjoy life and laugh through the lessons!

    • Hi Jane.
You are very correct and I guess the challenge for me is acceptance. But I do believe in Divine Timing, so I try to be patient and not rush things.
I am happy that you have found the right person! Great things come to those who wait!!
I do love to travel and India will definitely be a destination in my future!
I will go back often to your blog and read up.

  125. Thanks for liking my blog.

I believe in personal growth and living life. I also believe (rightly or wrongly so) in that perfect relationship. I encourage friends not to settle but wait for the right person – sometimes easier said than done! Hey, this will probably be my next post! Good luck!

  126. I started writing because I needed to get thoughts out of my head. and I continue to write, because to me is like breathing, something I need to survive… This is exactly how I feel. EXACTLY, how I feel about writing.!

  127. Good luck on your new journey …. and thanks for visiting my little corner of the world.

  128. My divorce was final in June and it gave me a great sense of freedom. It was not the right place for me and I know in my heart that something better awaits. Had I not left that relationship, I never would have started my blog and rekindled my love of writing. It’s nice to find other people here that feel the same. Glad to have found you!

  129. Thanks for stopping by my blog and liking my post. I love the title of your blog!

  130. Wishing you all the best in discovery !! I left my very lucrative career after 16 years to find myself and write. With writing and just trying to figure out how to set my page up and launch a blog has been a challenge. I was attacked and stabbed 21 times in 1991 and one was through my scull which has always made it very difficult to track.
I have read over and over the details on wordpress for set up and it seems to be my greatest challenge.. I think it’s time to just pay someone to help. Best of luck and I look forward to following your blog.

If you would be interested in writing a piece please feel free to contact me http://breakupandshine.com/share-your-story/. I’d love to hear from you!

    • Hi Marissa
      Thank you!
That is a great idea! I will think about it, as honestly, I don’t think I am healed yet and I don’t know if I will ever be. I have just been managing day to day gracefully!
      Many blessings to you! 🙂

  151. Hi Star on Forehead,

Thanks for liking my blog, too much time on my hands after a breakup led to a blog as well! I had some blogging questions for you actually – is there anyway via email or facebook to connect with you and ask some questions?

    Thanks, Ginga Ninja

  152. Finding oneself single is challenging. I can relate. A year ago, when I was 61 1/2 I left my home in a blaze of anxiety and fear, escaping from abuse. In the past year, I have begun to gain strength. I understand. I do not get into my personal feelings on my blog, although I have wanted to so many times. I admire your courage. In writing, I believe, is healing.

    • Hi Mona. Thank you so much for your kind words. You are right writing is indeed healing; I credit this blog for helping heal my broken heart and saving my sanity.
I applaud your courage and strength of pursuing your given right: a life free from any kind of abuse! You are already strong but I am eager to see how much stronger you can get as your brand new life is just beginning! Many blessings to you! 🙂

  153. Congratulations, Star on the Forehead!

I reckon kudos to you, you moved on so well, for I sure didn’t! 🙂

Love how honest you are with where you’re at and where you’re going. GOOD FOR YOU.

  162. Hello there, love your style of writing. Thank you for sharing your stories so candidly 🙂

  176. Hi:
Thanks for liking my three of my posts. Your story is inspiring and I wish you the best in future endeavors. I write because not only is it the only thing I’m any good at, others seem to enjoy it also. My blog is new as is the next chapter of my life. Being laid off has so far been the best thing that has ever happened to me; I spent 31 years hating my job and I hope the next 31 are the beginning of living. Hang in there !!

    • Hi Rob
Good luck with this new chapter. I am so glad that you realize the hidden blessing in being laid off – it offers you this huge chance of finding a different path and hopefully a job that you love!
I enjoy your blog so far and have to go back and read more!
Many blessings in your future! 🙂

  177. Thank you for visiting my site this morning (my time). I’m bowled over by your positive attitudes on here. You seem an amazing person with much to offer this world. I can’t wait to have a little browse around your blog!

  185. Thank you so much, Star, for discovering my blog and for the two likes you left there this morning. Having already lived quite a long time, I can assure you that life, even within an unbroken relationship, IS change. Sometimes the change is sudden and painful; sometimes it’s so gradual that it takes a while until you wake up and ask yourself, “What happened?” But I very much admire the energy and resilience with which you are confronting the hurts and difficulties in your life. Also, do keep on blogging; it helps a lot! I look forward to reading more posts! 😀

    • Hi Nina
Thank you so much for your wisdom! Blogging has kept my sanity at the time of the break up. I always say change is good and some times I need a reminder!
Thank you for the kind words and many blessings! 🙂

  186. Hi! Thanks for stopping by & liking my posts about Hong Kong! Thanks for sharing your inspiration 🙂

  187. Thank you very much for visiting my blog and I have enjoyed dipping my toes into yours. It’s funny how when you meet somebody for the first time, either in real life or in these blogs, you pick up on those coincidences but I have a Brazilian friend and she is so proud of being Brazilian and I’ve caught the flame. She was so psyched up when Brazil was doing well in the World Cup. We found a Brazilian BBQ restaurant called Braza nearby and love it. Brazil always sounds so exotic to me. I’m looking forward to reading more. Best wishes,

    • Hi Rowena
It is very nice to meet. I am happy that you joined the World Cup fever, and watching with a Brazilian is an awesome experience.
I hope you have a chance to visit Brazil someday and experience all we have to offer.
      Many blessings! 🙂

  188. Another thank you — for the follow! Hope you enjoy what you find there! 😀

  189. Thank you for stopping by my blog, because I now have a chance to experience yours! Someone once said that a break up or divorce is like having a death in the family. That described my break up perfectly. But once you get over that hump, and after the first time you’re truly able to laugh again, like bent over crying from the gut laughter….It’s just like you said, you get to reinvent yourself, on your own terms and that is such a liberating feeling! Love&Light to you on your journey!

    • It is indeed like a death in the family. Some days I feel completely over, while others I think there are still some remnants ..Still I feel blessed that it happened!
Thank you for the much needed and much welcomed love and light! 🙂
      Blessings! 🙂

  190. Your blog is so beautiful, and you have great wisdom. Thank you for sharing it with others. 🙂

  191. Thank you for visiting my blog, which allowed me to find yours, and I had goosebumps reading what you have posted. It feels like someone has come out of me and expressed things that I could not express myself. I have just started blogging (again), and for similar reasons as yours, to inspire people and to help myself deal with what’s going on in my life right now. Once again, thank you an God bless. – T.

    • You are welcome! I thank you for the kind words and for inspiring me to continue writing. Blogging has helped me a lot and one of the best things is to meet people like you. Many blessings and don’t give up writing! 🙂

  192. Hey beautiful lady, wondered???? how do I know you are beautiful????????……….. All those are beautiful, who are abstract thinkers…who have profound and unique thoughts and way of thinking, this is my belief!!!!!!!!!!!!……………………… Am grateful that I met you here…..and thankful for visiting my blog and following me :)………….

  193. Very inspiration. You made the best use of a situation one would usually think as dire. I look forward to reading your work!

  194. There is something about ‘A Star on the forehead’ that has drawn me back several times.

Out of the heartbreak and tears of desertion you have fashioned here an oasis of hope and faith and goodness and wisdom that is truly of you, a beautiful human being.

Proud and brave, a woman with a zest for life and humour too, you deserve true happiness and I hope you find it.

I’m so pleased you visited my blog as otherwise I might not have found you here.

Very best wishes from across the Big Pond,

  210. Hello, Transitions, Pathways, Passages, Change is the only constant. Thanks for liking my post. You mention “job loss” I joined wp when I was flushed out of the office by a Spanish loving Sicilian. Two years later, I end up in the same field; I see that field with a new set of glasses; redemption.
Your blog is lovely and I am thankful to have found you. One is a whole number btw. xo ~ wings

  211. Thank you so much for visiting my blog! Quite a few years ago, I got back into writing after a massive heartbreak that had more to do with letting myself be fooled than with the fool who fooled me. Writing is good for what ails you – whatever it is. I hope life is much happier for you these days. Take care!

    • This blog has been a lifesaver for me. It saved me my sanity and it didn’t cost a dime 🙂 Life has been amazing. My Ex did me a favor, now I am able to see that and be grateful for it. I hope all is well with you too. Thank you and many blessings! 🙂

  221. Thanks for your kind wishes!

  222. Hello there Star. Thank you for showing an interest in my blog. I’ve just read your post on attending the Ballet and your ambivalent attitude towards your current relationship. And I read your About Me section which was incredibly interesting. Brazilian American! I’m glad you’re blogging!

You’re quite honest and I believe you are one to truly “think” about your situation. You constantly see things from a distance. (things such as the man sitting across from you a.k.a. your date.) Your blunt honesty is a good thing because it is tempered with compassion, e.g. the man who sneezed. In short you appear to have the writer’s gift of observance and self-introspection.

I feel honored to make your acquaintance! 🙂

  223. Dear Star of the stars,
we have an honour to invite to participate in first ETERNAMENTA AWARDS ‘Most Talented Reader’.
    Best Regards,
More detailed information is here: https://eternamenta.wordpress.com/2016/11/14/eternamenta-blog-awards/

  224. what a brave, positive blog! so glad you visited mine – as its led me to yours 🙂

if you don’t mind my asking, how long were you in the relationship?

  225. oh – just visited you other site – 3 yrs?

  226. Nice to meet you. I am a little bit older than you and have reached that point in the road in my current relationship, where I know it is time to go. I am not getting any younger and I want to be free and happy. It sounds selfish, but you only get one chance at living, why be miserable. If it doesn’t fit or feel right , don’t try to make it, it wont work, at least it hasn’t for me. I don’t have anything to lose. The only thing that keeps me here is finances, but I am taking steps to move ahead.

    • Welcome aboard! I always appreciate the older and wiser! There are points in life that one has to be selfish to maintain their sanity and to feed their own soul. Thinking of others is good but it may get to the point when you have nothing to offer because you have depleted yourself for the sake of others. Each person is responsible for their own happiness. As they say on airplanes put your air mask first, only then you can help others. I am glad that you are taking steps to enable yourself to move on to a better situation. Sometimes it takes courage to say good bye, it is not giving up, it is realizing that it is not fixable. Best of luck to you! Blessings! 🙂

      • Thank you so much, your words are wise ones and very true. I have always had a problem with guilt and have over stayed, when I should have left much sooner.I always tried to make things work, even though I was not happy, I sacrificed years by being that way. It is hard to make that first move, especially when finances are involved.

      • I was lucky to have been in a good financial position at the time we broke up, but still I tried to hold on convince him to fix the relationship. How happy I am today that he never wanted to work on “us”. In hindsight perhaps I was not as happy as I thought I was.

  227. It is such a joy to “meet” you…I’m not sure how you found my blog, but thank you for “liking” so many of my posts! I’ve read and commented on a number of yours, and I’m privileged to “follow” you…you have the type of heart that I am drawn to…you are optimistic and genuine, brave and willing to “put yourself out there”…and, you inspire others to be the best versions of themselves–warts and all. That kind of freedom makes the sky the limit, and gives each of us the daring, and room, to soar. You are a light…thanks for sharing 🙂

  228. Thank you for your interest in my blog and I look forward to following yours.

  229. Go for it!!! See it this way…the fact that you are doing this is already a step forward. And, I know this is very cliche and probably not what you want to hear, but, I’m a firm believer that “Things happen for a reason”….even though the reason may not always be clear…
    Happy Blogging!

  230. I have really enjoyed reading your blog.I am happy I found you,you are very inspirational.
