“Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.” ―
The picture above was taken on my last beach walk before I left Florida. I will be here in NY for a couple of weeks.
It is always fun to spend time with my sister, go to our favorite restaurants and get foot massages.
Unfortunately, it is not all fun and games. I have one of those financial audits that I love 🙁 so much due at the end of the month. Since my accountant retired I have to do them on my own. I am able to do it, but I miss having my hand held.
I have been trying to forget my disappointment over Brazil’s loss in the World Cup. I knew they wouldn’t go far, but still I was hopeful. Miracles do happen. I wouldn’t mind the loss if at least they had put some effort. The players look lost. There was no passion. There was no heart.
At the beginning of the World Cup I said I didn’t care about it. My heart told me otherwise. It hurt. I guess it is more than futebol. It is one of those rare instances where the whole country is united. There is no political party, religion, social class, etc. Everyone comes together to celebrate. Or in this instance, to cry.
There is always 2030!!
“That tension – between beauty and cynicism, between what Brazilians call futebol d’arte and futebol de resultados – is a constant, perhaps because it is so fundamental, not merely to sport, but also to life: to win, or to play the game well?”

May your day be blessed!

Hi,
That is a great way to live.
Thank you and Blessings!
What a beautifully honest and reflective post. I loved how you blended personal moments, meaningful quotes, and the emotions of football into a heartfelt narrative. Your beach photograph perfectly captures the calm before a new chapter, while your reflections remind us that life is a balance of joyful reunions, unavoidable responsibilities, and unexpected disappointments.
Your thoughts on Brazil touched me the most. Football is far more than a game—it carries the hopes, pride, and unity of an entire nation. Win or lose, that shared passion is something truly special. And yes, there is always hope for 2030!
Hi Vijay,
Thank you so much for this beautiful and thoughtful comment.
I feel you really grasped all I was feeling and didn’t find all the right words.
There is always 2030, and before that we may find passion in more than soccer.
Thank you again and blessings to you!
Good luck with your audit. I think everyone was surprised that Brazil is out. There is always next time. 👍
Thank you, Ute!
Hopefully we have a better team next time 🙂
Blessings!
I’m sorry about Brazil’s loss. Your post captures perfectly what makes sports, like the World Cup, such a unifying force. I don’t follow sports unless my city or country makes it to the tournament and yes it’s exciting to see the community come together but also devastating when the loss comes.
Have a great time in NYC!
Thank you, Ab!
Hopefully, we Brazilians can find more reasons to come together as a country and not have to wait until 2030 🙂
NY has been fun so far 🙂
Blessings!
