Today a saw a snake on the beach.
I am terrified of snakes, even if it is just a tad larger than a worm. This finding makes me afraid of my morning walks and of going in the water.
I am not sure it had been in the dune vegetation and just wondered off too far, or perhaps a bird was carrying it and dropped it.
Since I heard the story of the hawk that dropped a snake on a woman and then both started attacking her, I am always aware of birds above me.
“Even snakes are afraid of snakes.” — Steven Wright
After a few more minutes walking I encountered all these birds. I am surprised they didn’t notice the snake.

OMG…a snake on the beach? UGH…I hate them too! 😫

Hi Kim,
So you get me… the one place I thought I wouldn’t have to worry about them.

Oh honey, I can relate. 😫 Even the garden snakes folks say aren’t venomous, I still have a problem with them! UGH! 😝

Hi Kym,
We feel the same way.
The first thing people say is that it is non-venomous, but I don’t care. I just dislike them a lot.
Blessings!

What a mix of emotions on your walk! Snakes and birds certainly keep us on our toes. Your story captures that blend of fear and fascination with nature so well. Hoping your future walks are snake-free and filled with peaceful bird sightings! 🐍🐦✨

Hi Kym,
for some reason this comment was in the Spam folder.
I love how you say “fear and fascination”, that is exactly how I feel towards some animals, specially snakes.
The walks have been snake free, thanks heaven!! 🙂
Blessings!

A beautiful walk despite the anxiety caused by the snake and the birds!

I am really blessed to be this contact with nature early in the morning… even though now I will start looking out for snakes everywhere.

Oh my gosh! Wow, on a beach. I totally remember that story of the snake and hawk. So wild. Glad you made it out of there unscathed♡

Hi Dee,
I am glad I didn’t step on it. And just yesterday, while on my bike, I saw a dead Black Racer on the street.
I hope that I have no more sightings.
Blessings to you!

Is that a Yellow Bellied Sea Snake?

Hi Cindy,
No, I don’t think so. There was no yellow, just brown.
It was probably just a garter snake from the dunes.
Blessings to you!

I’m terrified of snakes as well. When we saw a water snake, at least a meter long and as thick as my wrist, I refused to go back in the water for the rest of our camping trip and I was super cautious and wary walking anywhere in the park. Those birds were remarkably unafraid.

Hi Susanne,
I would have done the same. It sounds terrifying.
One of the reasons I don’t really care for camping.
I thought the birds would be at least curious, but I think they never noticed it.

Amazing how nature doesn’t realize what a threat humans can be.

Hi Cindy,
No, never, I will never go near it. Not even if it is dead, like the one I saw yesterday on the street.

I don’t think those are the type to eat that snake?

Hi KE,
I think you are right. Too many birds in the area, and it was still alive.
