“Whoever said money can’t buy happiness, didn’t know where to go shopping.” ―
On our final day in Argentina we went shopping in Paraguay. We went to a brand new shopping center called China Shopping. It is catered to Brazilians looking for luxury items, from iPhone to all top name clothing name brands and perfumes. One a side note, Michael was shocked to see how much Brazilian men likes to use and to shop for colognes.
We only went there because the lady that help my mom around the house wanted to get a cell phone for her son. To me, shopping is as pleasurable as a trip to the dentist. My mother likes to shop but she prefers local vendors with the local items.
The highlight of the trip to me was the ferry. Our driver suggested that, instead of taking the highway, that we take the ferry. It was only a 12 minute ride to get from Argentina to Paraguay. So pleasurable and definitely the right choice.
At the end of the day, we got the cell phone and everyone was happy. A phone that would cost 13,000 reais ($2,600.00) in Brazil, in Paraguay was bought for 7,000 reais ($1,400.00)
“We can’t stop shopping, we must stop shopping. It isn’t only that consumption is distorting the climate, felling the forests, cluttering out lives, filling our heads with a throwaway mindset, even stealing the stars from the night sky. The worst is that it leaves us with no idea of what else to do, no belief that things can be different. Whichever way we go, it leaves us doomed.” ― The Day the World Stops Shopping: How Ending Consumerism Saves the Environment and Ourselves

Very nice.

Cool! Men’s obsession with colognes, yes, I think that’s a cultural thing. The only reason I don’t have any is that I’m allergic to them. Otherwise, I would probably be buying a new one every month. 😀

Hi Edward,
Michael can’t wear either, so he finds it comical the obsession here. I happen to like when men cares about their appearance and smell.
Blessings to you!

Well, we are in the same club then, since I also find it comical. Thank you, and I hope you have a blessed day too.

I’ve heard Paraguay and Uruaguay are becoming popular retirement places. Any opinions?

Hi Brad,
In those countries, and others around here, such as Argentina and Chile are starting to attract US retirees. I can see why, prices are so cheap and the people are so nice. Of course there are bad areas, but there are bad areas all over the world. The US dollar really goes far here.
I know very little of Paraguay, and don’t know Uruguay, but I heard that the big cities have a European feel. I was in Santiago, Chile last July, and found it to be a place that I could live at with no issues.
Brazilians are going to Paraguay for shopping and also to go to medical school.
When I retire, Michael and I, are entertaining the idea of staying a little bit in each country, not only in South America, and eventually seeing where we fit in. We don’t have children/grandchildren, so we are free to go anywhere.
Michael wants a house in the country with no neighbors, anywhere 🙂
Do you feel like trying to live in another country?
Blessings!

Yes, I’m curious about moving to somewhere overseas and want to start traveling to see if any places seem like a good fit.

That sounds like a good plan! Visiting is one thing, actually living is another, so you definitely need to live in a place for at least one month to form an opinion.

Yes, I agree about the wisdom of longer stays.

The ferry ride would’ve been the scenic highlight for me as well. Not a fan of shopping either!

HI Ab,
Shopping is so draining to me. I just feel I have enough and don’t want to add more things to clean, organize, etc. I really want a simple, minimal life, with comfort, of course 🙂

Shopping, some like it some don’t …. I am not too keen but somewhere else it is quite fascinating I find, just to look not actually shop. 🙂

Hi Ute,
I haven’t found a shop yet that I like to linger, maybe as I age, but I think my distaste for shopping and window shopping is getting worst.
Blessings!

iPhone 17 Pro Max, I think.
I have a Galaxy, so I am not that versed in iPhones, I am considering a switch though.
