That is how I spent my Sunday, at a mosaic workshop in Stamford, CT.
I learned some great techniques and got the name of some materials to use. I am definitely glad I went, but
one of the hardest parts for me was to be concentrating on one task for many hours straight. I am the type of person that gravitates from task to task. I also like to see results quickly, so it was such an exercise in focus and patience!
I didn’t even stop for lunch because I wanted to just get the project finished. Quitting was not an option, so finishing it as fast as I could was. Perhaps that means that mosaics are not the craft for me, but I like to believe that it just means that I need to learn how to slow down and how to be more focused. I also think that focus and talent are 2 different things.
and here is the final product:
My mom collects owls so I will be surprising her with this masterpiece (for some reason I can’t correct the orientation of the picture)
Of course right now I can think of many things that I could have done better, but still I am very proud of my owls!
How beautiful! Congratulations and your Mom will love the beautiful owl mosaic.

Very nice – glad you have this creative outlet. I have the same problem on WordPress with photos I take with horizontal orientation. Even when I rotate it in my photo program, it always goes back to the original orientation. Maybe one of your followers will give us the key to this mystery.

Thank you! I am trying to tap into my creative side – I must have one!!!
This photo thing is nuts, I save it correctly many different ways and still comes up sideways.
Hopefully someone will come to the rescue.
A blessed week to you! 🙂

Hi Frank. hummm I hadn’t thought about it that way, but I guess I am being taught acceptance and letting go at every corner. Accepting that I couldn’t get them to stand up and being okay with presenting a less then perfect picture is somewhat liberating! A blessed day to you! 🙂
ps. thank you for the different perspective!

It is a very pretty owl. As for the orientation, I had problems last week and finally got to it through a tool in WP in editing the picture – I believe it was “advanced” setting but not certain.

Oh wow! Beautiful! Mosaics are something I absolutely adore; one of the top reasons I love going to south of Europe and north Africa; they are everywhere!

Mosaic Art encompasses so many different forms. I find when I teach it, the personality of the student often determines the type they choose. Your owl is beautiful and an excellent first attempt. Next time though you might enjoy smashing ceramics with a hammer and using a nipper to create shapes. Its quicker and often suits those with a streak of impatience.

Thank you! I do have already some broken ceramics and other stuff that I want to use. I specifically have a fish cookie jar that broke, so I want to use that because it is fun and colorful. One of the things that drove me nuts was trying to make round shapes using the nippers, next time I do an animal I am going to cheat and use a button for the eyes! Blessings! 🙂
