I have started taking daily walks before going to work. It has become a good routine that has improved my day. It makes me feel even more blessed to be able to have this contact with nature first thing in the morning.
On the first day I saw some garbage and other items left behind by the beach goers and decided to pick it up and throw in the trash bin.
In the following days I started taking a bag with me to help with the garbage collection. For the first few days I threw everything out. But the last couple of days I decided to keep some of the children’s toys. See the 2 pictures below.
The items I find the most are:
- Children’s plastic toys
- Hair ties
- Bottles, cans, bottle caps, plastic cups and straws
- Suntan lotion bottles
- Food and candy wrappers
- Socks (I found 3 pairs in 2 days)
Today I decided to take 2 bags, one for real garbage and one for toys. Guess what?
Nothing was found, except for a couple of bottle caps. I am happy to see the beach clean. Today is Friday, I am guessing the beach is the worst after the weekend. I will report back after Monday’s walk.
Wishing everyone a blessed weekend!

Kudos on this healthy habit.

Oh, I love how you protect the nature overall, Star. I can relate with you so much. I pick up trash in my neighborhood, too, sometimes. I want to maintain its beauty. Keep going.

We do our part! It would be so awesome if everyone did theirs, specially not throwing garbage in the fist place.
Blessings to you!

Yes, that’s how I wish that children were taught at home to throw garbage properly. Thank you so much, Star.

Hi Hazel,
I wish the same. Whatever we learn very young it becomes second nature.
I am happy to do my part, and I am enjoying collecting some of my findings.

It looks like a wonderful place to live. Kind of you to clean up after others. Around here, most of the junk on the side of the road include cigarette butts and coffee cups.

I see cigarette butts and coffee cups too, but not as much as the other stuff.
Blessings to you!

It is good of you to collect the rubbish. Shame there are so many lovely toys there.
It makes your morning walk a very useful walk. ….and it is healthy. Keep it up. 👍

How wonderful to read of your routine and your gift to others by cleaning the beach. I am inspired.
My son does the same. He stops when we are riding together and picks up one or two things each ride to toss away. It’s one of his characteristics that he has that I am proud of.
Your post reminded me of the time when the kids were small I left behind a submarine at the beach, it was quickly claimed by another family (and I don’t blame them). I never found another like it, and the kids loved playing with this pretend submarine water toy that was quite large – at least 1 1/2 metres. I was consoled knowing it was probably enjoyed by another family and not disposed of.
Best wishes from the Okanagan my friend. – David
