blessings and miracles, champagne toast, New Years resolutions, pursue your dreams, setting up goals, to do list, write goals down
I didn’t want to make any New Year’s resolutions. I didn’t want the pressure. I still don’t. But, at the same rate, I want to have goals and accomplish them.
What is the difference between resolutions and goals? To me resolutions are just wishful thinking. One just comes up with things they want to change, but with no set plans to get it accomplished. After one week or two into the new year, all is forgotten.
Goals are a written list of what one wants to achieve, along with detailed steps to get it done. Writing it down, and having clear steps aligns the thoughts with the actions.
As I get older, time seems finite and limited. I cannot waste it. Whatever I want I need to get serious about getting it, doing it, accomplishing it. The time is now.
Wishing you all, old and new friends, the most amazing New Year! Wishing you blessings and miracles!
“Make New Year’s goals. Dig within, and discover what you would like to have happen in your life this year. This helps you do your part. It is an affirmation that you’re interested in fully living life in the year to come.
Goals give us direction. They put a powerful force into play on a universal, conscious, and subconscious level. Goals give our life direction.
What would you like to have happen in your life this year? What would you like to do, to accomplish? What good would you like to attract into your life? What particular areas of growth would you like to have happen to you? What blocks, or character defects, would you like to have removed?
What would you like to attain? Little things and big things? Where would you like to go? What would you like to have happen in friendship and love? What would you like to have happen in your family life?
What problems would you like to see solved? What decisions would you like to make? What would you like to happen in your career?
Write it down. Take a piece of paper, a few hours of your time, and write it all down – as an affirmation of you, your life, and your ability to choose. Then let it go.
The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.”
― The Language of Letting Go: Daily Meditations on Codependency
Thank you for your encouraging post and I do have goals for the year and I haven’t written them down. I wonder if I am afraid to put them on paper? This post was so clear and well written and it didn’t make me hungry like some of your posts do! ha ha We are off to see our grandson soon, play some board games, maybe qwirkle or crokinole (I hope) and enjoy some family time. I am not really a midnight person so we may celebrate midnight here on east coast time. Lol Hugs to you and thanks for all our chats in 2022. – David

Hi David,
I totally relate. I haven’t written mine down yet, and probably for the same reason. Writing it down makes it final and makes me accountable.
haha, there will be more posts about food in 2023, stay tuned and stay hungry lol
I hope it was a fun evening with your grandson. I am not familiar with those games. I do love board games.
Thank you for 2022! Many blessings in 2023!

Hi Brad,
I get it, and normally think that way.
But, for some reason, I believe it is good to give myself some things to aspire to and achieve.
Perhaps give yourself 1 goal.
Thank you for 2022 and sending you blessings for 2023!

Thank you for sharing and Happy New Year!!… wishing you all the best in accomplishing your goals!!.. I usually follow my heart with some “ideas” “Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow them.” (Louisa May Alcott)… 🙂
Whenever I think of goals or resolutions, the words of Rose Milligan come to mind; 🙂
Dust if you must, but wouldn’t it be better
to paint a picture, or write a letter,
bake a cake, or plant a seed.
Ponder the difference between want and need.
Dust if you must, but there is not much time,
with rivers to swim and mountains to climb!
Music to hear, and books to read,
friends to cherish and life to lead.
Dust if you must, but the world’s out there
with the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
a flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
this day will not come round again.
Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go, and go you must,
you, yourself, will make more dust!
(Rose Milligan)
Hope you and your family have a wonderful New Year filled with peace, love, happiness and life is all that you wish for it to be and until we meet again… 🙂
May the love that you give
Always return to you,
That family and friends are many
And always remain true,
May your mind only know peace
No suffering or strife,
May your heart only know love and happiness
On your journey through life.

Happy New Year! So it begs the question of what are your Goals for this year? I am a firm believer that if you don’t write something down then it can’t be measured. This is why have a written Bucket List of places and activities that I want to go to and do. It is something to refer to as I think about places to go in the coming year. This year will be Portugal. Experiences >Stuff in my world. Here’s to you meeting your Goals and having a fun and prosperous 2023. Best.

Hi Robbie,
I knew somebody would ask lol Thank you for keeping me accountable!
The sad truth is that I don’t have anything written down yet. I have ideas of what I want to do circling around in my head. I know that once I write them down, it will be official, and I just don’t want to have this long list of wants and wishes, just because. I want to be more purposeful about it.
I don’t have a bucket list either. Perhaps I need to spend some time reflecting on what I really want out of life, and then making it official.
Thank you for your insights in 2022! Sending you blessings for a great 2023!
ps. Have you started learning Portuguese yet?

Sounds good. The more I read and watch YouTube about Portugese I am seeing that English is spoken pretty much everywhere. As a unilingual Canadian (with a smattering of French) there is little hope for me. However my travel buddy from Germany already speaks four languages so I will be leaning on him for much of any translation. I am really looking forward to it. This week will be flying to Vancouver with this weekend skiing at Whistler with my daughter. We’ll have a blast as we always do! Whistler in Canada is such a unique experience! Enjoy your week!

Vancouver was very rainy, and the base of Whistler too was quite wet. But my daughter and I got very lucky and the weekend weather openned up to blue sky and some great conditions at Blackcomb! Just amazing. My German male friend I am sure could be convinced to be a consultant. A great guy to have around. Been friends with him since 2008. Sadly I cannot post using this reply to show pics of mountains. Happy to send elsewhere.

Kind of ironic that, just this first week into the new year, I am once again dealing with what I have sort of self-diagnosed as codependency between my alcoholic ex and myself. As I was initially going through the process of separating myself from that as best I could when we were physically and then legally separated, Melody Beattie’s writings helped me to understand what was going on and to try to move ahead. Given what recently happened within my immediate family, maybe that’s something I need to look at again.

It seems that we both keep being pulled back to situations that have hurt ourselves in the past. It think that we keep being tested. The ex that broke my heart and caused me so much pain sent me an email on the very first day of the year – I may write about it. I was annoyed, and yet indifferent.
Sometimes we think we have learned a lesson, and then it comes again and we realize there is more to be learned.
Wishing you strength and resolve to deal with any issues that come your way! Blessings!

I just did a post on exactly this. Not a coincidence. Just the time of year.
I just don’t like the word “resolution.” It feels like a word that is tied to perfectionism. Plus, you only hear about them in the first week of January, when everyone is still hungover from new years. It feels like there’s no intention or real value in a resolution. But a goal… that what I like. Unlike a resolution, you can talk about goals in July without sounding like a crazy person.

Hi Mattyg,
We think alike! People come up with resolutions in the New Year, but by now I bet that 95% or more have already forgotten about them.
I like written goals, but I am sad to say that I still haven’t written some down yet. I guess, writing them down makes it official and makes me accountable.
So, I live every day full of intention and purpose… I intend on writing some goals 🙂
Thank you for the comment and many blessings to you!
