“Fame is proof that people are gullible.” ―
When I first starting going on my bike rides in the morning and my walks in the evening, I kept noticing this beautiful duck in this little pond.
I noticed that he was always in the same spot and always alone. I felt sorry for him, as he seemed lonely.
Then, a few days into my walks, Michael decided to walk with me. I pointed out the duck to him.
He said: “It is fake”.
All of a sudden it made complete sense. I felt so dumb. Why didn’t I realize that before? It never moved. It looked so perfect.
Oh well! Now the question is: Why is there a fake duck in the pond?
“I am extremely gullible when I lie to myself.” ― You’re Not Doing It Right: Tales of Marriage, Sex, Death, and Other Humiliations

Yes gullible, aren’t we all. We all tend to assume that what we see and think is real. Just look at the fake posts on, for example, Facebook. They may seem fake, there is no evidence, you look it up in snopes and confirm it is fake, but about 1 in 1000 commentors realize it is fake. Even if someone points out that it is fake, no one seems to notice or they refuse to acknowledge it. Even satire articles are blindly believed. I think I am pretty skeptical but I get fooled all the time too. We all get fooled. We aren’t very good at this. So welcome to the club.

Hi Thomas,
You are right, it is so easy to believe without questioning.
I used to think that I am normally suspicious about everything, things I read and stories people tell. And then I get fooled by a duck.
One can never let their guard down lol
Wishing you a blessed weekend!

Haha my question is the same – why did they put a fair duck in the pond? I googled and it says it’s for attracting birds to the pond.

That is interesting – so far it is not working. He remains alone 🙂

I can relate Ana. We have a fake goose here that I originally thought was real. 🙂

Funny, I’m always the last to notice things too.
I actually think you just felt sorry for the duck, and compassion and looked beyond it being fake. I wouldn’t worry, nothing wrong with that. ❤️

Hi Ute,
I think you are right. I like your explanation. I am all emotions, and I immediately felt sorry for him and didn’t see anything else.
Blessings to you!

That’s funny. Well, a fake one because ducks look nice and no real ones come.

That is a good explanation. He certainly looks so pretty there. 🙂

LOL, I bet someone thought that to themselves. I want to see a duck, let’s sneak a fake one in. 😉

I’ve fallen for fake flowers the same way Ana, only I make it worse by saying something like, “Wow – they’re so bright!” I’ve lived long enough to almost take pride in my gullibility. Almost… 🙂

hahaha, I can see that! Some of the fake flowers nowadays are so real that sometimes we have to touch it to be able to find out if they are real or not.

Super cute actually, that you even noticed. Many people do not take the time to not only smell the roses but look at nature around them!

That is something I am working on, paying more attention to nature and my surroundings.
I am getting better and better at it.

I am happy to say all of the ducks in a nearby pond are very much real. We have a lot of geese in the area, and sometimes people will put out fake dogs to try and scare them off, but the geese have figured out they don’t move either!😊

Hi Bruce,
Fake dogs – I had never heard of that.
In NY I have fake owls in my balcony to scare the pigeons. They are not as smart as the geese lol
