Covid vaccine, Janssen, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Pfizer, resuming life, rolling the dice, traveling free
“Is this thing safe?”
“Safe as life,” Gansey replied.”
―
Yesterday I got the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. So far, zero side effects.
I didn’t want to take it, but at this point I feel I have to. I want to resume life. Not that I am not resuming life already.
But I felt I needed to take the vaccine to be able to travel. I need to go to Brazil and see my parents. Brazil is a complete mess. I am so sad and scared for everyone there.
I have been bombarded with opinions from all sides. Some said take it, some say don’t. Once I decided to take it, then, the question was which of the 3 available vaccines to take. Which is more effective, which has the least side effects, etc
One can go insane if he/she starts listening to people’s opinion. I read some publications that were sent to me, I pondered for weeks. In the end I am followed my heart and gut on what I thought I needed to do.
I told a close friend that was trying to talk me out of it: “I am rolling the dice”. He said: “I honor that”.
So, whatever you choose to do or not do, I honor that!
“If we stay where we are, where we’re stuck, where we’re comfortable and safe, we die there. We become like mushrooms, living in the dark, with poop up to our chins. If you want to know only what you already know, you’re dying. You’re saying: Leave me alone; I don’t mind this little rathole. It’s warm and dry. Really, it’s fine.
When nothing new can get in, that’s death. When oxygen can’t find a way in, you die. But new is scary, and new can be disappointing, and confusing – we had this all figured out, and now we don’t.
New is life.”

You know, this is a huge decision for a lot of people, and it is so hard because there is conflicting advice and information. For me, because of my serious medical issues, the call was easy, peasy: if there is a serious chance that you won’t survive the illness, you get the vaccine! I’m going though rounds of medical testing right now and it is becoming kind of obvious that there are a lot of post-Covid patients in the system right now getting care for emerging chronic conditions that emerged after their illness. My heart is broken for them! I think that if you are going to Brazil you absolutely made the right decision. I hope that your family stays safe and hugs to all of you.

Thank you for this great comment – well said! I agree with you, people that have medical issues should definitely get it.
My friend is currently in the hospital with, what I believe, are complications from having had Covid. He was healthy up to that point.
In Brazil, healthcare was already in desperate need of reform. People often die waiting in line to be treated. Now add to that: Covid, and you got a major meltdown.
Thank you for the good wishes! So far my family is well. My parents have been vaccinated. I just worry now about my older brother. The vaccines in my town there has finished and no one has any idea when, and if, there will be more coming.
Blessings to you and good luck with your medical tests! ♥♥

I hope that your friend recovers soon. I think that there hasn’t been enough information about long lasting effects of Covid infections, but I think that there just hasn’t been enough time to collect enough data. My son just got his appointment for this weekend and I am so relieved that he can get that protection too. I hope that things improve soon in Brazil; it sounds so serious in the news.

I honor your choice Ana. I choose to not take it unless I am required for travel. Then it would be a hard choice.

I say do what you feel. Some people don’t like vaccines – for whatever reason – and some do. I take the flu shot each year, so I’ll get this one, too.

Interesting you mentioned freedom. That is a big one for me. I am an Aries, and a Horse on the Chinese horoscope – both signs marked by independence and freedom. No wonder I am single 🙂

No wonder we get along. So, the ex that broke my heart was a Scorpio and the first thing I did when I met him was to look up our match according to the zodiac. It said something like: “if you two manage not to kill each other, you can rule the world”. Do you want to rule the world with me? 😉

We had no choice about our vaccine but had no hesitation in getting inoculated. At least you only have one vaccination to get! Given your date’s health and Brazil’s problems with the virus it seems like an easy choice but we are all a little afraid. We can get through this together and I hope you can see your parents soon. I am slightly surprised about people’s hesitancy but it has been so long since the Polio scare, for example, in the 50s that we have forgotten how much we need vaccines. Blessings to you too!

Well done on your choice. We could not choose which one to get, we had to take what was there. I had for 24 hours side effects and then I was a good as normal. Brazil looks not good and I do pray with you that your parents are ok.

Hi Oscar,
My sister lives with me and takes the train into Manhattan every day. I continue to go our to dinner and dates every now and then. The vaccine seemed like the right choice for me. Specially when I see so many dying in Brazil and not having a vaccine available to them. I feel blessed for having the choice.

Thank you for sharing!!… I haven’t had the vaccination yet due to lack of availability, but I will in the near future as soon as the health care gets better organized and the vaccine becomes more available… plus there are others that need it more than I do… why roll the dice when one can bet on a sure thing?… 🙂
Until we meet again..
May the love that you give
Always return to you,
That family and friends are many
And always remain true,
May your mind only know peace
No suffering or strife,
May your spirit only know love and happiness
On your journey through life.

Hi Larry,
“As soon as healthcare get better organized”? I don’t think that will happen any time soon.
Well, that is awfully pessimistic of me. Sorry, I digress… I hope you can get vaccinated soon.
It did feel like a sure thing now that I am done with it.

My wife and I just got our first dose of the Pfizer vaccine last Tuesday ― we basically signed up for it as soon as we became eligible. Even a mild case of COVID can have long-lasting effects, and as for a serious case, well, like I’ve been telling people since this started, I’ve been to the ICU and I don’t want to go back …

Hi James,
Congratulations on getting the vaccine. I got the JNJ, that is now in the new for having some issues. Still that doesn’t faze me. I still feel I made the right choice. I wanted Pfizer or JNJ, whichever I got first.
I have been hearing about the lasting affects of having had, and it is definitely not worth the gamble.
Blessings to you! ♥♥
