I just had a Mc Donald’s Filet-o-Fish. The last time I had one was probably 20 years ago, with the exception being some fish nuggets I had tried in February at the airport in Denver. A friend was buying an apple pie and I was intrigued by the poster of the fish nuggets. How bad could it be? It was awful. I should know better than to become intrigued by an item in the McDonald’s menu.
I am not a fast food eater. It is not what comes to mind when I am hungry. I normally cook all my meals, and if like treating myself I normally gravitate towards sugar, like cakes and cookies.
I am also somewhat proud to say that I never had a McDonalds burger. First it doesn’t look like meat. Second, if I feel like eating a burger, Mcds is the last place I would turn to.
With all that being said, the Filet-o-Fish tasted great. Perhaps it helped that I was starving. I plan on making my own fish sandwich one of these days. I think it will taste awesome. The other day I made fried tilapia for a friend and she said it was the best she ever had.
In Brazil we say: A melhor comida ‘e a fome! (The best food is hunger) Indeed! Indeed!

I realize my diet could use some improving. I eat what I want when I want, and most often I have sugar in some way shape or form on a daily basis (not proud of that fact). I do happen to love most vegetables so I will have tons of those. But I tend to eat the same ones over and over again.
I have always wanted a juicer. I figure is a great way to get the nutrients found in some vegetables I rarely eat such as carrots, beets, celery, watercress, aloe vera (is aloe vera a vegetable?). I know that with juicing I will not get fibers but I don’t worry about that as I eat enough fiber already.
Now that I have my juicer I am having fun coming up with different juices. Some are easier to stomach than others, but I am making an effort. I attempted to make the famous green juice and after drinking 2 cups realized why it tasted awful, I had forgotten 2 ingredients: green apple and mint, the 2 that would make it sweeter and easier to drink. The other day I made an amazing pineapple and mint juice.
I am now in search of recipes that will make me look younger, firm up my skin and make my metabolism speed up, miracle juices so to speak 🙂 Do you know any?
The cons of having a juicer: it takes a lot of my limited counter space, the cleanup is a pain and I can’t really store juices.
Confession: I already find myself too lazy to use the juicer some times. But I will persevere.

Every 5 or 6 years I crave something from McDonalds and I do really like the fillet of fish sandwich and their fries which are pretty awesome. I agree though, eating any fast food is a rarity and I love to prepare my own food or eat out at a good restaurant. Sweets are my downfall, sugar in general and especially chocolate. It’s good you have a juicer, and eat lots of vegetables. Sounds like it’s pretty balanced what you eat.

It does sound we have similar tastes and habits 🙂 I could do a better job at eating healthier, such as eating less sugar and carbs, but still I am not doing too bad! Always looking for balance.
Have a blessed weekend! 🙂

Yea I had a juicer it was a pain to clean, and took up precious counter space so I lent it to my daughter. She uses it way more than I ever did.
oh and Mickey D’s… Bleh!

Now I have that horrible filet o fish song stuck in my head! Good for you buying a juicer….don’t give up. I have a dehydrator and yes sometimes I forget to use it. I stash it under a counter but I do like it. Maybe I will send you my tomatoes when they come in and you can juice them for me 🙂

oh sorry, I don’t even know the song, but I am afraid to google it and then get it stuck in my head too! lol
No promises, if you send me homegrown tomatoes I may just make a salad and eat it!!

Hey thanks for liking my juicer post! I’ll be looking forward to other recipes that you try. So far I’ve juiced kiwis, grapefruit, & oranges together and strawberries, carrots, & apples together. I’m easing into it with fruit until the garden picks up!
I agree with you that it is a lot of work but it can taste so good! and that fast food is not appetizing at most times. Hope your future fish sandwich is delish and good luck juicing…it is so fun 🙂

Hi Faith
I am eager to try different kind of juices, but I am going slow as I know that everything that I start too eager I don’t finish.
Perhaps there is a fish sandwich in my future…
I admire your great attitude with everything that you are going through!
Many blessings to you! 🙂

So awesome that you’re trying juicing!
It can be time-consuming, but I found some things that help, like doing a juice prep: cleaning, washing and cutting the vegetables in advance and just storing them in the fridge. This link may help too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzID275GIcI
I’d also recommend joining up a community. Juicing by yourself, you can quickly lose your motivation. Whether it’s talking and swapping recipes with people around you who are doing it or joining a community online can both inspire and help you keep at it.

Hi Mak. Thank you, those are great tips! I am going to look into those communities. I can tell already that it will take a lot motivation.
I watched the video and thought was great. the only problem with youtube is that you start watching everything there and all of a sudden a couple of hours go by – lol
A blessed weekend to you! 🙂

humm, not sure how I feel about that… that could be said of a lot of things nowadays. I tend to feel people should be held accountable for their actions. No one has a gun to anyone’s head forcing them to eat fast food. I believe in moderation in all things.
I like that you are trying to inspire and empower women with your blog!! Kudos to that!!
A blessed weekend to you! 🙂

Yes we are responsible for our actions, and I agree with you that no one makes people do it. Fast food also tears down dinner time with the family. It should be a time to talk about your day.

I recently bought the Juiceman brand juicer. The product is great but nonetheless the mess that is left behind is daunting. So inevitably, right before I start juicing, I think of 2 things: How great it will taste and the mess I will have to clean. Usually the second part is enough to dissuade me from juicing. 🙂
Every time I’ve juiced I’ve felt like the captain of the infamous Exxon Valdez that spilled its content in Alaska 🙂
So I discovered a juice brand that is a great substitute for juicing: Odwalla. No sugar added and all natural. Their carrot juice is awesome. As for the cost, it is of course a little more costly than juicing at home but the “no cleaning required” aspect easily makes up for it.
As for McDonalds and fast food 🙂 I have not had fast food for a long time now. So on Tuesday, I convinced myself that because I am working out regularly “I deserve” a burger. So I stopped by Whataburger at 9:45 pm 🙂 I ordered the Chop House burger. That beast turned out to be the size of a newborn baby. My conscious has been torturing me ever since. There is no amount of exercise that qualifies anyone for it:)
I have not had anything at McDonald (in the U.S.A) for a long time. On the other hand, when I am in Brazil, I eat at McDonalds because my brain swears that their burgers and fries taste better in Brazil. Could be the effect of being surrounded by family, but nevertheless it really seems tastier 🙂

hahaha If I think about the cleaning I would never use my juicer, so I don’t, but honestly I am not using it as often as I thought I would.
Exxon Valdez spill?? aren’t we dramatic? hahaha
I never tried Odwalla, so I will look for and report back.
I don’t think we have Whataburgers in NY, but any burger is better than Mcds. You had the burger and enjoyed and you deserved it, it is water under the bridge, stop thinking about it.
Now that you mention it I think I have tried a Mcds burger in Brazil, I am not sure how it tasted but it looked better than here in the US, and I have heard from other Brazilians that it is better in Brazil.
Have a blessed weekend! 🙂

My daughter uses her juicer a lot. I have used mine twice. I bought a cheaper one on sale (I don’t regret that) to use in making a detox juice. It was tolerable and did the trick but slower than expected (I believe it is because I already have so much fiber in my diet 40-80 grams per day). My recent colonoscopy came back totally clear, so I am doing something right.

Hi Scott. One of the cons of getting a juicer, they say, is that juices don’t give you enough fiber. I have no idea how much fiber I eat, I do need to look closely at my diet. Congratulations on clear innards! 🙂 Blessings! 🙂
