As some of you may know because of this post https://blessedwithastarontheforehead.wordpress.com/2012/05/19/bye-bye-chocolate-see-you-soon/—— I gave up chocolate for 1 year.
As the 1 year mark (November 4th) approaches, I am filled with dread and anticipation. Well, it is mostly anticipation of all the chocolaty wonders I can reconnect with.
I have to be honest that I take turns being excited, anxious and nervous. What am I going to do? Will I be able to eat chocolate moderately or will I turn back into the chocoholic that I was before? I am frankly scared.
I often hear of people giving up smoking and drinking for a long period of time and then start back again. I always think to myself: How stupid! If you went that long without it then you clearly don’t need it! Why re-start an addiction? And now I am contemplating doing exactly that!
Putting all the fears and reasons not to eat chocolate ever again aside, I am now in the counting the days and planning stage. What will be my chocolate of choice to indulge in on November 4th?
I am thinking that it will be some kind of chocolate cake, homemade or bakery bought.
So please help me find the best, most indulgent and decadent mouth watering chocolate cake ever! I am looking for either the recipe so I can make it or for the location where I can buy it!
Life is too short and it is totally unrealistic to think I will give up chocolate forever!!
30 days to go …
(as you all can my life is good, my main preoccupation is chocolate – lol)

I have given in to the “dark” chocolate side. I heard that dark chocolate has many health benefits. Whether this is true or not does not matter….I believe!!!

what I have found in my love affair with chocolate, is that it is really the sugar that makes me go back for more and more and more. Once I switched to good dark chocolate it made all the difference. I actually enjoy the bitterness and the way it melts in my mouth. Yes it is more expensive, but I buy a whole lot of small bars and they actually sit in my pantry for weeks…. and they don’t call my name like cheap sugar laden chocolate does. I hope that you will find the balance of chocolate that you enjoy, but that doesn’t enslave you.

Good points. That is in the plans: to switch to dark chocolate. Indeed sugar is the main problem. That is what I should aim to get rid of it. But for now I can’t even imagine it!! Thank you! Blessings! 🙂

I always enjoy a molten chocolate cake, served as dessert in restaurants. The center is soft and gooey chocolate paradise.

Chocolate in South America was considered food of the gods. To informed people of taste, it still is.

Well, chocolate isn’t nearly as bad for you as smoking so you’re good! I love chocolate too but don’t plan on giving it up anytime soon, lol. I don’t know any cake recipes. I’m quite content with my Hershey’s Bliss candy, mmm…those always make my day. Good luck!

I guess you are right, as addictions goes, chocolate is not that bad! lol
and the weird thing is, the only chocolate I refuse to eat is Hershey’s. I never like the taste of it.
Thank you! Blessings! 🙂

Ever try the Bliss? It doesn’t taste like regular hersheys which is why I love it. Also would recommend Willy Wonka Chocolate Waterfall (milk and white choc mixed together) yummmmm!

I’ve tried to stay clear of chocolate – because I’m trying to lose weight – with moderate success LOL I see the little snack size bars and mini’s and think… that won’t hurt… LOL I’m still losing weight though, so it can’t all be bad…

Congratulations on the weight loss! It is better to lose weight slower anyway, it gives your body a chance to get acclimated to the new weight. Little snack size bars don’t hurt unless you have more than one, and I doubt you stop at one! lol
Unfortunately the scale has never been my friend either, but lately we have been trying to have a better relationship – lol
No song came to mind?

If you went without chocolate for a year, I am sure you will have the power to control it and not overdue it. I don’t have any recipes, but if I have to choose, I would go to a store where you could choose small pieces of different types and eat one of each! Enjoy! and Good luck! 😀

I am hoping that I have learned enough about me and chocolate in this one year so that I am able to exercise restraint. We shall see!
Thank you for the good luck wishes, I am going to need them and then some!! 🙂

Good for you for giving it up that long!! It is my absolute favorite. I was going to say Chocolate Molten Cake too, but I’m sure I’ll think of something else. Always love a good Chocolate Mousse too.

Wow, giving up chocolate for a year!!!! Well congrats on sticking to it!
It must be scary to wonder how you will react, but I think that if you were able to hold out for a year, and are aware of the possibilities once you can eat chocolate, you will be just fine.
I’m not sure what to recommend to you to eat, but whatever you choose I hope it is a satisfying moment for you 🙂

Wow – good for you, giving up chocolate for a full year! I’ve tried (unsuccessfully) to give up sweets, including chocolate, but I last about a week and then I cave.

This is a post after my own heart. I cannot give up chocolate, and I have tried, really. So, I switched to 70% and above, sometimes I do 85% 🙂 just so I know, I an do it. I don’t miss the milk chocolate anymore. I am trying to be dairy free and gluten free, so I have to choose my chocolate carefully. I love any dark chocolate by Theo – made in Seattle, it is fabulous. The dark chocolate with orange is so good, you’ll want more. I also love Divine. They are fair trade and organic. I also eat Dagoba but only the 85% and even buy their cocoa powder to drink. The only chocolate cake for me is by Ina Garten – I think it is called Beatty’s chocolate cake or something like it, since I don’t or try not to eat wheat anymore, I can actually make this with gluten free flour, so my daughter who is highly allergic can eat it too. I really admire your restraint.

Thank you so much! Great tips here! I am going to look for those chocolate, and I am intrigued by Ina Garten’s cake. Dark chocolate seems the way to go, but I know it is an acquired taste.
Good for you for the changes in your diet and good luck keeping it up! I know I have to make some changes but I am not in that mode yet!!
Thanks you again and many blessings to you! 🙂

I hope you find that you like it. It wasn’t easy to switch from milk to dark, now I find milk is too sweet. Changes are so hard, especially when you visit a friend’s house and you are gluten free or trying not to eat meat, and meat is all they serve. I think you will do wonderfully well. Good luck and I will be following your journey. I thought I already was, but I wasn’t.

Changes are not easy, it takes effort and discipline to create new habits and acquire new tastes. Great for you for switching to dark chocolate! I still have no clue what I will do. The smart thing would be not to touch chocolate again, but I never said I was smart – LOL Thank you for following! 🙂

Ahhhh, to not want chocolate again – I wish:-) I simply cannot give it up, yet. Maybe one day. I am drawing closer to becoming a vegetarian, not quite there.. sigh. I really do think it is in the mind as far as I am concerned. Slow and steady I guess. We all have something don’t we?
I honestly thought I was following you, then I realized I was not. I am so glad I found you.
